Older children may enjoy the excitement of the move and should be included as much as possible during the planning, to help them understand the reasons for moving and reduce homesickness.
Younger children may well be distressed that their toys and loved possessions are disappearing – as far as they know – forever! Discuss the move with them and encourage them to draw pictures of their new room / house with their toys and familiar furniture in the new rooms – it helps them to understand that they will see their possessions at the other end!
Encourage them to make a plan of their new room to “help” the removers – by showing their current, familiar furniture on a plan it helps to re-enforce that these items will be coming with them, and gets them involved with the moving process.
Some colouring and an activity sheet are on the right and health advice can be found by clicking here.
Physical Wellbeing – your child on the day of the removal
Please be aware of health and safety considerations on the day of the move. These can be:
open doors,
vehicle ramps,
removers carrying large and heavy items that obscure their vision from their waist down.
Many PP Removals staff are used to children – having younger siblings or children of their own, and will be as tolerant and understanding of your children’s needs as possible during the move, but it is worthwhile considering whether your child needs to be present on the moving day, or whether a friend or relative can look after them to free you up to concentrate on the removal
We can work together to keep your children safe!
